Abstract

Physical rehabilitation is critical in optimizing the functional abilities of persons following a lower extremity amputation. Unfortunately, limitations in gait performance are common even in those persons who are considered to be highly functional. The purpose of this case report is to describe changes in gait kinematics and physiologic energy cost resulting from a virtual reality based gait training program that capitalizes on real-time feedback to facilitate improvement in walking ability.
