Gait Recognition as an Approach for People Identification

Abstract

AbstractIn this paper we analyzed gait recognition approach for people identification. A gait recognition represents an interesting way for people identification or verification. Many presented methods for people identification were based on gait. During a gait cycle, each person creates some patterns that can be used in purpose of identification. The advantage of gait-based identification methods is that these methods usually do not require any interaction with a person during process of identification. Generally, two approaches in gait recognition are in use. There are model-based approach and appearance-based approach. A model-based approach usually uses some model that is based on different parts of human body (some measures related to a body parts may be in use, e.g. length of the legs and arms) while an appearance-based approach usually uses silhouettes (or some various silhouette representations) of a person.KeywordsGait recognitionPeople identificationBiometric methodsSilhouette of a personGait Energy Image
