Abstract

Contract farming has the advantages of overall development of the growers. A study conducted with 180 sugarcane growers under contract farming in sugarcane cultivation revealed that there was not much developments of the growers particularly on developing irrigation facilities, use of implements, pest and disease management, herbicide application, efficient use of inputs, timely harvesting, remunerative price and timely payment. Considerable deficiencies were observed on technological (49.67%), economical (46.33%), farm activities (45.00%), material possession (42.67%), marketing (42.00%), infrastructure (32.67%) and social activities (39.67%). Better developments were observed on increase in productivity, coordination, cohesiveness and solidarity among people, better use of resource, increase in decision-making capabilities and occupational competency as well as quality production.
