Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, a 38‐nm wideband gain‐flattened distributed Raman amplifier utilising two pump wavelengths is experimentally demonstrated. The pump combination of 1430 and 1456 nm with 26‐nm spacing has enabled a gain flatness of less than 1.1 dB at a Raman on‐off gain of 10 dB. The flat gain is obtained through a careful pump‐power adjustment between these two pump wavelengths without any gain‐flattening filters. The 38‐nm bandwidth covers signal wavelengths from 1530.33 to 1568.78 nm. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
