Abstract

A comprehensive numerical model has been used to analyse the saturation of gain and output signal power in a Pr 3+-doped fluoride fibre amplifier. The effect of numerical aperture and pump input power on the large-signal behaviour of the Pr 3+-doped fluoride fibre amplifier has been studied. The optimum cut-off wavelength of the LP 11 mode has been found to be 750 nm, independent of numerical aperture and input pump power.
