Abstract

AbstractGagging is a physiologic reaction that is protective in nature. Gagging is commonly seen during dental procedures, and patients who have a sensitive gag reflex can be a challenge to manage. Gagging during dental procedures often causes interruption in the dental treatment, or in rare instances, the treatment has to be postponed. Gagging makes it difficult to perform dental treatment, and there are various methods that are advocated in the literature. Managing a patient with an exaggerated gag reflex is a challenge, and effective and right approach to the management can go long way for the patient. This review aims to highlight the various options of preventing or reducing gagging in patients.
