Abstract

This paper presents a plate spring type sensor for reading Braille. A Braille letter is consisted of 6 dots of 3 times 2 arrays. The sensor detects the height of Braille dots via three plate springs and three strain gages. The direct contact type sensor proposed detects Braille dots with good accuracy. Effectiveness of the sensor is examined through the experiment of constant speed scanning. Further, the influence of the contact scanning type sensor on the abrasion of Braille dots is investigated.
