Abstract

In this study, a new mechanism of a variable damping force oil damper for a vehicle is developed. A tuning of a damper defines characteristics of cars. Generally, a harder damper setting gives vehicles stability while a softer damper setting gives them comfort. Therefore, a vehicle stability and comfort for damper setting are trade-off. A damping force of a damper depends on its stroke speed. If damper characteristics which a damping force is lower when its stroke speed of damper is higher were made, the damper could give both stability and comfort to a vehicle. The new mechanism of a variable damping force damper shows good behavior we expected.
