Abstract

The purpose of this research is to observe the effects of oxide films on the surfaces of Ti-6A1-4V alloys to corrosion fatigue characteristics. Ti alloys are widely used in substrates materials of medical implants. Some reports showed the failures of these implants after several year's services. Therefore, authors discuss the crack growth behavior in corrosion environment and observe the fracture mechanism of oxide film in low dissolved oxygen condition. 0.9wt% NaCl corrosion environment accelerates the cycles to crack initiation. Dissolved oxygen has little effects for crack propagation behavior in higher stress level.
