Abstract
Digital image correlation (DIC) is a method in which deformation behavior is evaluated by image analysis. In this method, random patterns on an object surface before deformation and the changes in these patterns after deformation are determined. However, almost no studies have performed strength tests using DIC. In this study, we evaluated the local deformation behavior of tensile test specimens using DIC. In addition, through strain analysis carried out by finite element analysis (FEA), we verified the validity of the evaluated distortion obtained through DIC. The axial displacement in the tensile specimen was evaluated by using an extensometer and DIC. The error m both measurements was 2%, which confirmed that the measurement accuracy of DIC was satisfactory. The axial strain distributions obtained using DIC and FEA were similar, and the absolute value was generally consistent. Thus, we were able to measure the local strain with high accuracy by using DIC. However, large strain locations could not be analyzed using DIC.
