Abstract

Abstract Although in earlier times the Eastern Orthodox Church was generally known as the Greek Orthodox Church, here the term Greek Christianity signifies the Orthodox Church after the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and its life under Ottoman rule (with the exception of the Russian Orthodox Church) and the Church of Greece up to the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
