Abstract

To evaluate the efficacy and complications of gastrostomy tube feeding for patients with muscular dystrophies, we reviewed clinical records of 36 patients with muscular dystrophies who underwent gastrostomy between 2004 and 2008 consecutively; 27 patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), one with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD), 2 with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), 5 with myotonic dystrophy (MD), and one with plectinopathy. Mean age of the patients at the time of procedure was 35.6 years (range 19–66 years).
