Abstract

The 1 N expansion method is extended to study the neutron-proton degree of freedom in a general boson model. Using a standard IBM-2 hamiltonian, we derive analytic expressions for energies and electromagnetic transition rates both for the symmetric and mixed-symmetry states, highlighting the extra bands due to the g-boson and also the interplay between the g-boson effects and the neutron-proton isovector components in the description of the M1 properties.
