Abstract

Fuzzy logic has been deployed to enhance the intelligence of network selection engine in heterogeneous wireless mobile networks in recent years. Multiple fuzzy engines, each with dedicated sets of fuzzy membership functions and decision rules, deem necessary to achieve intelligent handover decisions for different networks' and applications' requirements. Design and development of fuzzy engines become complex as the number of dedicated set of fuzzy membership functions (FMFs) increases. Fuzzy tuning philosophy enables FMFs to be automatically and dynamically adjusted; hence, a fuzzy engine with a set of decision rules can utilize just a set of FMFs to cope with various requirements and conditions. Utilizing an adaptable FMFs helps decrease the design complexity and is sufficient to support intelligent network selection decision for heterogeneous wireless mobile network.
