Abstract

The development and significance of the best management practice for controlling urban runoff quality are reviewed briefly. Several regular BMP types, together with their functions, removal efficiency of target pollutants, runoff volume control, design considerations, community acceptance and construction characteristics, etc. are described. The fuzzy hierarchy recognition model and computation procedures for selecting the most rational BMP type are suggested to satisfied all requirements for urban runoff quality and quantity control in a location, according to the criteria on targeted pollutants, physical limits, drainage/flood control, community and environmental adaptability.
