Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a fuzzy-PI regulator specifically developed for speed control of electrical drives. The tuning algorithm consists of two steps: first a PI with fixed parameters is synthesized on the basis of a first order model of the plant. Then, the fine tuning of the regulator parameters is performed on line by the fuzzy supervisory algorithm, whose inputs are the normalized error and error variations. The proposed method has been used for control of two industrial drives, namely a direct-drive variable reluctance motor and an a. c. brushless motor. The results here reported clearly show the performance improvement obtained with respect to conventional PI control with fixed parameters.
