Abstract

This paper proposes a new approach to the design of a control-oriented model for magnetorheological dampers for vibration control systems using a fuzzy modelling scheme. First, a forward fuzzy model that exhibits non-linear behaviour, such as hysteretic and field-dependent characteristics, and which produces a force for given operating conditions and control voltage, is devised and described. Second, using the notion of a mathematical involution, inverse fuzzy models for control analysis are continuously derived from the proposed forward fuzzy model. A simulation study is conducted for the proposed fuzzy models and performance results are analysed to evaluate their viabilities as a possible solution as well as a framework for control analysis.
