Abstract

There is a requirement to transform feature-related functions into specific features at the detail design stage. This paper begins developing a methodology based on fuzzy set theory to model the mapping of feature-related functions into features in detail design. The transition from functions into features by means of the proposed fuzzy models could facilitate selecting features or evaluating a candidate component design. The models are easy to formulate and computerize. Three forms of function-feature mapping, with regard to different aspects of features, including the form feature, the size accuracy and the position accuracy, are formulated. An integrated form of mapping results is also presented.
