Abstract

Accurate tracking and estimation of the voltage flicker levels is important for effective design and implementations of voltage mitigation devices. This paper presents tracking and estimation technique for the instantaneous voltage flicker magnitude, frequency and phase using Kalman filtering. The approach is based on expressing voltage flicker as a discrete time linear dynamic system model with flicker parameters as the system parameters. An extended state space model is adapted for Kalman filter to estimate the parameters. Fuzzy rule-based logic is used to tune up the system and the measurement noise levels by adjusting their covariance matrices using flicker measurements.
