Abstract

A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is proposed for automatic adjustment of the camera parameters to compensate the changes of ambient illumination in a vision-based crop monitoring sensor. The implemented controller is to provide consistent performance of a multi-spectral imaging sensor for nitrogen assessment of corn crops. With no dynamic model available for camera performance, the FLC is applied to control an exposure and gain and thus to obtain desired image quality. Experimental studies shows the FLC performs well in controlling camera parameters. The development of this fuzzy image quality controller enhances the reliable performance of the field crop sensing system.
