Abstract
Improvement in the control strategies of three-phase induction motor have resulted in domination of induction motor in industrial applications such as speed and position control, over DC motors. Vector control techniques of the motor aim at controlling magnitude and phase of the flux linking the rotor windings. Parallel PI controllers used in controlling of torque and speed of the motor result in high staring overshoot in the speed, sensitivity to controller gains and slow response to sudden change in the torque. Cascaded PI controllers are more suitable for motor control applications over parallel PI controllers. This paper explains deterministic way of tuning cascaded PI controllers. Performance of fuzzy logic controller implemented is superior compared to PI controller. Indirect vector control method is implemented in MATLAB Simulink environment. Results obtained demonstrate the behaviour of the system under dynamics such as starting and speed reversal.
