Abstract

In our previous works we introduced a graphical model representing the diabetic therapy at the onset called MTG (Medical Treatment Graph). One of its advantage is the possibility to follow the consequences of changing the therapy to avoid the incidents of hypo- or hyperglycemia. The definition of these notions are coming from medical norms, however, they introduce the strict borders. In this paper we propose Fuzzy MTG that allows to model the diabetic therapy. By introducing the proper membership function the physician can concentrate only on excessive fluctuations of blood glucose level (BGL) and intervene only when it is necessary. At diabetes onset the individual reaction of the human body to insulin is not stable, therefore, establishing insulin therapy must be done very carefully. We propose the decision support system based on Fuzzy MTG to visually assess the treatment and help the physician in proposing best therapy. The model has been positively validated by a diabetology expert.
