Abstract

A fuzzy expert system for on-line fault diagnosis on a transmission network is described in this paper. The proposed diagnostic system is housed in a control centre and receives information from the EMS/SCADA systems and the intelligent electronics devices (IEDs). The information received includes the open/closed states of circuit breakers and the operational response of protection relays in conjunction with the topology of the transmission network. The system analyses the information if a fault occurs on the network and identifies the faulted components based on the reasoning from a fuzzy expert system. Test results have shown that the proposed fuzzy expert system is able to identify the faulted lines or sections efficiently and precisely, and is able to handle uncertainties. It is feasible, practicable and promising for the on-line environment.
