Abstract

Wind turbine system is a complex nonlinear system involving some random disturbances. The pitch control system is one of the most widely used control techniques to regulate the output power of a wind turbine. The mathematical model of the system should be well known to control the pitch angle using conventional PID controller. To cope with the nonlinear characteristics of wind turbine, a new control strategy for variable speed pitch regulated wind turbine is proposed. In this paper, we developed a mathematical model for pitch control system and proposed a fuzzy adaptive PID controller to deal with the control of pitch system with disturbances and uncertain factors. Here, the auto tuning of proportional, integral and derivative constants are performed using fuzzy controller for optimum response. A comparision with proposed strategies and conventional PID controllers is performed. The simulation results show that the adaptive FLC can achieve better control performances than conventional pitch angle control strategies.
