Abstract

In the preceding chapters, many experts have heralded the successes in the study of convective heat and mass transport in porous media. In contrast, this chapter focuses on existing weaknesses and points at future needs of research in this field. Its scope includes convective multi-component and multi-phase transport processes, both with and without phase change. Analytical and experimental issues are discussed in conjunction with relevant new projects that show promise. The author has benefited from the inputs of panelists and participants before, during and after the panel meeting at the 1990 NATO Advanced Study Institute. The names of contributors are given in the acknowledgments section.
