Abstract

In today's fast-paced world with the advent of smartphone technology how people live, work, and pass time has completely changed. Social media networks have shrunk a hitherto disconnected world with hyper-connectivity providing enough scope for people to engage in activities through the operation of the Gigs that connect end-users with service providers at the tap of a button or a missed call. The outgrowth of Industrial Revolution 4.0 has been the emergence of the Gig Economy resulting in a growing number of freelancers and workers increasing in the economy. This is also coupled with work choices reflecting flexible and meaningful work, a fluctuating economic environment, and the millennial workforce. The conceptual study analyses the emergence of the Gig Economy as a result of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, gives a snapshot of Gigs as a new form of the workforce, looks into the trends and developments across the US and India, studies the problems and issues associated with Gig workers.
