Abstract
To serve as President of the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons is a signal honor and one which I shall always cherish. This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of this rather unique select organization, composed as it is of surgeons with a general surgical background who have acquired special knowledge and skills in the treatment of cancer of the head and neck. The Society’s membership has increased rapidly since its establishment. Indeed, in the past ten years, the membership has more than doubled, largely because of the excellence of the scientific meetings and the camaraderie of the members. This year’s meeting promises to be another success, primarily because of the combined effort’s of the various committees, especially those concerned with the program and local arrangements. The committeemen have done an exceptional job, and we are indebted to them for what promises to be a momentous meeting. It is certainly not necessary to remind any member of the advances made in the treatment
