Abstract

During the last 10 years, photovoltaic (PV) polycrystalline thin film materials, at laboratory stage, have experienced very important developments. Several groups all over the world have reported solar cell efficiencies, at a laboratory level, in the range from 10% up to 17% for different thin‐film PV technologies. New achievements are expected due to the intense research in PV thin film devices. Nevertheless, these technologies have not been yet tested at a production stage due to physical, technological, and economical reasons. In this paper we review some of the recent developments in the most promising thin film PV materials and technologies for production and commercialization.
