Abstract

The enactment of legislation establishing the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at the end of 2000 marked a milestone not only for radiology but for the Academy of Radiology Research, as well. For its first 5 years, the Academy focused almost exclusively on the effort to establish NIBIB. Now that it has achieved its primary goal, the Academy is developing a broader, long-range plan to promote and support research in the imaging sciences.
