Abstract

This chapter reflects on a future research agenda among multiple disciplines as related to the Female Athlete Triad. Since passage of the Title IX legislation in 1972, more and more young women engage in physical activity and competitive sports. This opportunity and trend for girls and women to become more athletic has been positive overall, yet has also been accompanied by negative health outcomes. While there have been many advances made in this area, there remain gaps in knowledge that drive a future research agenda. We consider and summarize important topics for future research.
