Abstract

Abstract. A fragment of a lobe of Xanthoria parietina (L.) Th. Fr. (approx. 1 mm2), detached from the parent thallus but remaining attached to the substrate, fused back onto the parent thallus during the next five months until healing was complete and the fused lobe was indistinguishable from other lobes of the parent. Distinction is made between fusing of thalli of the same species and merging of thalli when boundaries meet or when thalli engulf others of the same species, but do not fuse together.
