Abstract

Cross sections for fusion and peripheral reactions in the sub-barrier region obtained with the coupled-channel and equivalent-spheres methods are compared for the systems 16O + 148,152 Sm. A barrier-like real potential plus a residual surface-imaginary potential is introduced as an alternative approach which allows the simultaneous fit of elastic, inelastic, fusion and peripheral reaction cross sections.
