Abstract

It has recently been reported that certain elasmobranch fish have a clotting diathesis which can be overcome in vitro by high concentrations of calcium ion (Doolittle and Surgenor, 1962). Under such conditions, a rapid coagulation occurs which is soon followed by a spontaneous fibrinolysis. The present report deals with the effects of varying certain other conditions of the physico‐chemical environment and also the effectiveness of certain inhibitors known to repress either clotting or lysis in mammalian systems.
