To identify one kind of proteiin miiolecule as being more primitive than another kind is more difficult than making the same determination for a skeletal structure, because the paleontological record tells us little or nothing about protein molecules. Both the paleontologist and comparative morphologist are concerned with establishing homologies 2 among organisms.
