Abstract

I offer the following essay as a small token of my deep gratitude to Laurie for her sustained support over a period of decades. I cannot possibly say enough good things about her role as editor of Source. She never wanted to publish a conventional journal resembling the Art Bulletin or the Burlington Magazine. Rather, she followed a different path and succeeded in superintending a journal filled with surprises, even caprice, and whimsy—a journal in which authors were not afraid to speculate. The spirit of unorthodoxy that Laurie brought to Source was incomparable. She was an original! She will be missed.
