Abstract

Early development of the 2nd-stage juvenile in the egg of Heterodera avenae proceeded faster at 20° than at 15° or 10°; development had to reach a certain stage before it could respond to low temperature. Optimum temperature for penetration of roots by juveniles was initially about 25° but later was about 20° ; this change was partly from the resultant of the optimum temperature for growth of roots and optimum temperature for penetration of juveniles. Rate of development of juveniles in roots increased up to 25° but there was little difference between 20° and 25°. More females were produced at 15 ° .
