Abstract

With the aid of newly available plans the following paper seeks to establish, or reinforce, the existence and function of five large, second storey, two-columned halls ("Reception Halls") with windows on their west facades: three at Knossos (Southwest Hall, Central Hall and Northwest Hall), and two at Mallia (South Hall and Central Hall). It also attempts to answer, in a similar fashion at both palaces, the problem of access from the outside to the West Magazines.
