Abstract

Mössbauer spectra of human serium transferrin have been observed in high magnetic field at 4.2 K and at temperatures as low as 175 mK. These spectra were fitted to the calculated spectra based on a rhombic spin Hamiltonian for a high spin ferric ion. Good fittings of the spectra were obtained and the parameters of the electronic part of the spin Hamiltonian were found to be D=0.3 cm−1 and λ=0.26. Effects of the Mössbauer spectra due to higher order spin Hamiltonian terms were investigated and used to explain the discrepancies between EPR and Mössbauer results. Changes in the Mössbauer spectra in the presence of perchlorate ions have also been investigated.
