Abstract

ABSTRACT Optical wavelength extinction values and sky-brightness measurements obtained from September 1985 to December 1989 ar presented. At the 2800-m level the median V-band extinction is found to be 0.172 mag/air mass. The database presently includes extinction measurements at three greatly different sites (elevations 75, 2800, and 4205 m). The 2800-m vs. 4205-m extinction values give a derived aerosol scale height of H = 1.43 + or - 0.30 km, in agreement with Hayes and Latham (1975). The sea level vs. 2800-m V-band data give a scale height value approximately twice as large.
