Abstract

In the Ilmenau concentrator, G.D.R., the new collector oleoylsarcosine is now being used in the flotation of fluorite from ores containing more than 6% calcite (acid-grade concentrates cannot be produced from these ores with oleic acid). It is necessary to adjust the collector and quebracho addition for different ores to obtain satisfactory results. Optimum flotation pH is 8–9. Temperature changes over the range 10–60°C have little effect, in contradistinction to oleic acid. Ca 2+ and Fe 2+ are not important but Fe 3+ decreases fluorite recoveries. Best recoveries are obtained from the size range 0.04–0.16 mm. An addition of flocculants to the tailings is necessary to reclaim clear water for recycling.
