Abstract
Furosemide-induced diuresis was used nine times in three infants to lower hypercalcemia immediately. Invariably it lowered the serum calcium level by markedly increasing urinary calcium excretion. This was subsequently followed by a gradual rise in serum calcium. No untoward effects were noted. To be safe and effective, water and electrolyte losses have to be accurately replaced, and the patient must be closely monitored.
