Abstract
Modifications to a high temperature camera enable the actual specimen temperature to be measured accurately in the range 700-1 000° C. The maker's furnaces have been replaced by hemispherical furnaces, and the temperatures are measured and controlled by means of two rigidly fixed ring thermocouples of new design. Reproducible results have been obtained, and it has been shown that the gradients in the specimen and the difference in temperature between specimen and thermocouples are both very small.
