Abstract

In January of 1967 Dr. Vincent Collins chaired an Ad Hoc Committee of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences charged with discussing the“Scope and Content of Research in Diagnostic Radiology.” It seemed desirable to have before us an indication of the research support of the various categories of radiologic research. The radiologic literature contains such information, and so all articles published in RADIOLOGY during 1966 were reviewed and are shown in the accompanying table. Not all of the articles fit happily into a specific category, but such instances were few and do not significantly alter the results.“Clinical diagnostic” included autopsy-related material and complications.“Physics” included dosimetry and patient exposure.“Radiologic technic and equipment” was somewhat of a catchall and included everything from catheters and isotope equipment to x-ray film comparisons and copying technics.
