Abstract

This book, without any pretense, presents only one side of the health care picture as it exists in this country today. As the title indicates, the voluntary health care viewpoint, as opposed to government-sponsored health care, is not only presented, but championed. The editor has collected a series of articles and speeches by prominent physicians, economists, and insurance experts. This type of presentation can result in lack of continuity and repetition, and, unfortunately, with regard to this particular book both of these criticisms are valid. The editor acknowledges this in the introduction but feels that the advantages of the format outweigh the disadvantages. I must take some exception to this because, in my opinion, they both detract significantly from the effectiveness of the material presented.
