Abstract

This is a well-written textbook which is addressed primarily to the undergraduate student and junior resident who need a fairly inclusive view of the essentials of obstetrics. It does encompass a rather comprehensive review of operative techniques but for the most part the fundamentals are emphasized. Only 35 references are noted but by and large these are carefully chosen British and American volumes which are well-known treatises containing full bibliographies. There are over 200 line drawings as well as appropriate photographs, including impressive reproductions of radiographs. Although the print is of somewhat reduced dimension, it is easily readable, the book binding is of good quality, and all illustrative depictions are clear. This reviewer is particularly impressed by the crisp, lively style of writing which has been stripped of all extraneous rhetoric and ambiguities. For the most part, abstruse controversial matters have been deleted. Only an author of vast personal experience
