Abstract

The target of the present study is to investigate the overall performance of a direct-contact heat exchanger in which the dispersed phase droplets freeze, with a view to applying the direct-contact freezing to latent cold energy storage system. Little research has been done in this field. From this study, the following things are clarified: (1) Normal injection is performed under the higher temperature condition. However, the frozen oil column is created at the outlet of the nozzle in the lower temperature condition. (2) The solidification rate of the frozen oil droplet can be measured by using the volumeter. (3) The solidification rate R of the frozen oil droplet increases with a decrease in injection oil temperature T{sub n} under normal injection conditions, and R decreases with a decrease in T{sub n} under frozen oil column formation condition. 9 refs., 5 figs., 1 tab.
