Abstract

Abstract Sheet-bulk metal forming is an expedient approach to efficiently manufacture functional components out of sheet metal. In order to reduce weight of the component manufactured, an application-adapted approach was developed to replace the conventional steel blank by a semi-finished product consisting of two blanks with half the thickness to enable the tailored combination of different materials in a combined deep drawing and upsetting process. To establish a basis for the application of these hybrid semi-finished products, first of all multilayer steel semi-finished products are drawn and upset in the process combination. Thereby, the upsetting process induces a three dimensional material flow and at the same time an interlocking connection of the two blanks. The gained results are the transferred onto the combination of steel and aluminium alloys within one semi-finished product. Fundamental dependencies as well as the influence of the application of different steel grades are investigated.
