Fundamental Absorption Spectrum of MgS

Abstract

The diffuse absorption spectra of pure MgS powder at 80 and 293 K are obtained from the diffuse reflection spectra by using Kubelka's formula. The fundamental absorption spectrum is also obtained from the high-energy part of the excitation spectrum of the MgS:Sb3+ phosphor. The fundamental absorption edge of MgS is near 4.6 eV, which is relatively near that (near 4.5 eV) of CaS.
