Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the functional aspect of biblical words and phrases in the American presidential discourse of the twentieth century. Genre varieties of political discourse, in particular, presidential discourse and its features are considered. The peculiarities of using biblical words and phrases in the inaugural address of American presidents are analyzed. The inaugural address belongs to the ritual type of presidential discourse. The analysis showed that biblical words and phrases are widely used in this type of political discourse in particular, lexical unit God. They represent such basic concepts as faith, freedom, human rights.
