Abstract

Aiming sustainable catalysts to neutralize toxic organophosphates, we functionalized gum arabic derivatives -commercial and industrial waste- with hydroxamate groups via covalent bonds. The polymeric catalysts promote the effective degradation of organophosphates with selectivity and recycling. Half-lifetimes of over 20 years (without catalysts) can be reduced to 30 min in the presence of the catalysts. Hence, biocompatible and waste-derived polymeric materials are promising scaffolds for biocatalysts for promoting chemical security.
